Why You Must Use a JURA-Compatible Descaler
JURA is very specific about the maintenance products used in their machines. Their systems are finely calibrated, and using a generic solution or vinegar can lead to significant problems.
- Formula Matters: JURA's descaling process is optimized for a specific lactic-acid based formula. Using a different type of acid (like the acetic acid in vinegar) can damage sensitive internal seals, sensors, and components, potentially voiding your warranty.
- No Residue: A high-quality, JURA-compatible descaler is designed to dissolve limescale completely and rinse away without a trace, protecting the pure taste of your coffee.
- Guaranteed Performance: Following the manufacturer's recommended maintenance with the correct products ensures your machine functions as intended for years to come.

Step-by-Step JURA Descaling Instructions
Most JURA machines follow a similar automated process. Always follow the prompts on your machine's display. This cycle will take approximately 40-45 minutes.
Phase 1: Starting the Cycle & Preparing the Solution
- When your machine displays the "DE-SCALE" prompt, press the "P" button to enter the programming menu. The machine will guide you to start the program.
- Your machine will prompt you to "EMPTY DRIP TRAY". Remove, empty, and re-insert the drip tray and coffee grounds container.
- The display will now prompt "ADD AGENT". Remove and empty the water tank.
- Pour 4 oz. of descaling solution into the empty water tank, then add 12 oz. of warm (not hot) water.
- Place a large container (at least 20 oz.) under the professional fine foam frother or hot water nozzle.
- Re-insert the water tank and press the "NEXT" or appropriate button to continue.
Phase 2: The Descaling Process
- The machine will now begin the descaling cycle, running the solution through the internal system and out of the frother. This will happen intermittently.
- Partway through, the machine will prompt you again to "EMPTY DRIP TRAY". Carefully remove, empty, and re-insert the drip tray and container.
Phase 3: The Freshwater Rinse Cycle
- The display will now prompt you to "FILL WATER TANK". Thoroughly rinse the water tank to remove all traces of the descaling solution.
- Refill the tank with fresh, cold water and re-insert it.
- Place your container(s) under both the coffee outlet and the frother as directed by the display.
- The machine will now automatically run a full freshwater rinse cycle to flush out the system.
- Once the rinse is finished, it will prompt you one last time to "EMPTY DRIP TRAY". Do so.
- The descaling process is now complete, and your JURA machine will return to its normal ready screen.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
1. How often should I descale my JURA?
You should only descale your JURA machine when it explicitly prompts you to. The machine automatically calculates the need based on the number of drinks made and the programmed water hardness level. There is no need to descale proactively.
2. What is the difference between "Cleaning" and "Descaling" on a JURA?
This is a critical distinction. The Cleaning Cycle (using JURA cleaning tablets) removes coffee oils and residue from the internal brew group. The Descaling Cycle (using liquid or descaling tablets) removes mineral deposits (limescale) from the water heating system. They are two separate, equally important maintenance programs.
